Hello everyone,

Title says it all: atm im having a XFX R9 280X and I want to upgrade in the next months.

Im only playing 1080p and dont want to upgrade to 1440p in the next time. I want to play 1080p 60fps NOT maxed out for the next 3+ years. So im not that graphic dude that needs totally maxed out graphics in every game... i just want to buy my last GPU for gaming (getting older, not that much time anymore).

My budget: 400€ max and I can get a graphics card from US by relatives.
So my idea was a gtx 1070 (I know it would be an overkill for 1080p, but i can play years with that one). First of all: will the gtx 1070 be around 400$ in US?

What do you think and what would be your choice?
Have a nice day and thank you already

Solution
The 1070 is indeed a very good choice. However, it won't be available at $400 for the moment, it has just been released, it only sells in the "Founders Edition" version, which is over $400, and it's very demanded, so there's no pressure to lower its price. It is overkill at the moment for 1080p gaming.

Another good option would be waiting until the end of June, when the new Radeon RX 480 will be released, for $199. It won't be as powerful as the 1070, but it's not even half the price. It is expected to perform between current GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti, though we'll have to wait for the reviews to know that for sure.

I used to buy top-notch GPUs, and renew every 3 generations or so, but i now think it's better to spend less on the GPU...

You end up paying the same, but you have better average performance over time. So i'd recommend you wait until the end of the month to see what the Radeon RX 480 offers, and then choose between the 1070 and this RX 480.

Do you know how much the partner editions of the gtx1070 and rx480 will cost in US and where it would be best to buy/order them?

Let me check the crystall ball... ;) No, no clue. The MSRP for the 1070 custom is $379, and AMD has indicated the RX 480 will have MSRP $199. But the 1070 prices will take time to get that low, it will depend on demand and supply; for the RX 480, probably the same, plus we don't yet know what versions there will be (4GB vs 8GB?), nor the exact performance. Reviews are meant to come out on the 29th. As for where to buy in the US, no idea, i'm in Europe...
