Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I posted this in the components forum. It's actually coming from the desktop case (again, sorry, I'll create a new thread in the other forum if needed). If I had to guess I'd say it sounds like a fan or something

Hi there johnthedoe,

Did that thing just happen?
I believe you can just open up the computer case, boot up the system. That way you will have a clearer view and be able to figure out where it comes from.

Can you hear that sound when you are loading up games, apps, etc?
It may be a good idea to back up the data stored on the drive.

Let us know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

This started happening like two days ago maybe? So it's definitely not the normal startup procedure (I know the fans speed up normally, but this is much louder - the recording doesn't sound that loud now that I listen to it again. But I could hear it from the other room yesterday)

Thinking back on it, could it be my hard drive? I added a second HDD from my previous PC to this one manually and I've noticed that sometimes when I open that drive through My Computer, the fans boost up for a bit (although not as loud as this noise) until the drive loads up - which is noticeably slower than the original HDD that came with the PC.
