Motherboard: ASUS z170 Pro Gaming
CPU: i5-6600k
GPU: MSI geforce gtx 960 2g
RAM: (2x4) Corsair Vengeance 3200 mHz
PSU: Corsair CX650M
Case: NZXT s340
HDD/SDD: WD Blue 1TB/ Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
Cooler Master evo 212

I just built my first computer yesterday, everything runs (fans, LEDs, gpu fans and LEDs), except my monitor will not display anything, says no signal. I have removed the GPU and used the motherboard HDMI, doesn't work. I have tried both the GPU and motherboard HDMI port when both were plugged in, and it still didnt work.

UPDATE:
I'm pretty certain my GPU is plugged into the PCIEx16_2, and the manual says

VGA Configuration Single VGA/PCIE card---> PCIE 3.0 x16_1(gray) --->[x16(Recommended for single VGA card)]
PCIE 3.0x16_2 --->[N/A] PCIE 3.0 x16_3 ---->[N/A]

Would that just be stupidity on me and be obvious to why it doesn't work? If so then why wouldn't the motherboard HDMI work?

Solution
Try to remove the GPU and boot from motherboard/CPU graphics. If your manual already recommends to put the VGA only in the first slot if single VGA maybe that is the reason why it is not working.

The display has been working the past week as I had been connecting my laptop to it through a mini HDMI cable, but I have yet to use a different display. I've tried both HDMI ports

Okay I'm sorry I know this is an extremely stupid question but the monitor is on the correct input?
Maybe try using dvi or vga instead of hdmi?

Otherwise I would suggest trying to plug your PC into anything else you can (other monitors/tvs) and check if you can get an output on that..
Do you have speakers plugged in to your system? Can you hear the windows sound when powering on your PC (assuming you have windows installed)

Is there any beeping coming from your motherboard when your PC is powering on? How many beeps if there are any

What monitor are you using? Is your hdmi cable 100% working, have you tried it with something else?

Sorry just lots of very simple questions but a lot of the time the causes of these type of things are fairly simple

Yes it's on the correct input, I even checked by changing to hdmi 1 and 2. I will try to use a different monitor or output like dvi,
I did have speakers plugged in the first time I powered it on, but I didn't hear anything. Also, I do not hear any beeps when turning the system off. I have used two different HDMI cables (one basic cable and another higher quality cable) still nothing

Thought it would be but always worth checking, I've spent time trying to solve problems myself only to find out I had the monitor on wrong input or something stupid like that..

The beeps would actually come from the motherboard when you power it on, if there are no beeps at all there's very likely an external error rather than an internal one.. Or it's a Motherboard problem CPU problem, incorrect wiring or maybe just a dead CMOS battery, although that's unlikely.

As for trying another monitor, could you plug it into a tv or different monitor and see either will work?

Sorry this probably isn't much help, I'm just trying to eliminate some options!

I wouldn't say for sure that it's definitely the problem, but definitely a good place to start. I've never had any problems displaying through my second PCI slot personally, if fact I used to have my GPU in the second slot on my old pc, due to my CPU cooler..
I would say try moving your GPU, & while you're at it taking out your RAM & putting in back in also (probably not the cause but will do no harm to try)
If that doesn't work at least you can rule that off of your list and start to look at other reasons why it may not be displaying.

Try removing everything and start building everything from scratch again but this time setup a test bench on the motherboard box. Just use the motherboard, use 1 stick of ram, install the processor and heatsink then try plug in the display and see if the system boots.
