Which GTX 1070?

Hey Guys the new GTX 1070 Is out there.

Basically was wondering which one would be the smartest to buy between Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, KFA2 (I don´t mind the Brand could be anything). They basically have almost the same frequencies but the price is quite staggering with the KFA2 going around 480Euros and the Asus Strix reaching around 520Euros. I would like to overclock and I saw that Some cards like the Gigabyte only has 1x8 Power connector meaning I won´t be able to squeeze much power, the MSI at the same price, has 2 power Connectors but only 2 fans (Hotter=?) gets quite hard to choose. The biggest factor for me is how much frequency I can get for the cheapest price

Quick question actually: Which frequency do I need to give more importance ? the boost clock or the Stock base clock ???

Example here whats the most important ?: Strix Gaming OC.....1632/1835 & 1657/1860 clock speeds.....8-pin power.....6+1 phases.....2 fans.....298mm x 134mm x 2 slots

Edit: And are there Brands you guys don´t recommend ?? Like Club3D Gainward something like that, or its more Brand price that im paying ?

no problem. always wanted such a list as this to put it all side by side. creating the thread has allowed me to live my dream :D

the boost clocks are like the turbo mode for cpu's. it will hit those speeds when there is heat and power to spare. otherwise it lowers the clocks. seems the average will be in the middle somewhere. the strix card has more speeds listed since it has multiple modes you can enable. i did not list the "quiet" mode which is stock reference clocks, then it has gaming and oc modes which are the ones i listed. i'd set it to the highest mode and then let it do it's thing. should net 5-10% more fps than a stock founder's edition based on the reviews for it.

there really are not any bad cards just bad prices. i am looking at the mid range 2-3 fan cards myself. i don't want reference specs but don't think the high end (high priced) models will be worth it either.

the strix, gaming x, gigabyte g1 and the like will be plenty good enough. i do like the looks of the evga cards and am thinking the acx 3.0 oc is a prime card as well unless the ftw gets a nice price.

Hahahah great thank you, I will definitely take a 1x6 1x8 pins card. The problem I see on those the 1x8 power connector card, is that it can only deliver maximum 150 Watts (Guessing). that mean the card will be physically Power Throttled and you won´t be able to Overclock much

Seems like I will stick to a MSI Gaming X card or a KFA2 being cheaper

is there a way to override that setting with the temp that makes the clock go down and make it stay put regardless of the temperature?

no, thermal/power limits are built into the bios. only way to change them is to write your own custom bios. all the 1080 cards are limited and all seem to hit the same clock rate wall at around 2-2.1 ghz. the better cooled cards won't run into thermal limits anyway and are only effected by the voltage limits in the bios.

you can always manually set the fans to full speed if you want to lower temps with a particular card.

no biggie. it can get confusing. you can raise the voltage limit in afterburner, but that still won't raise the max temp. it's built in to protect the chip. if it gets to hot it can damage itself and be ruined. that is why they are built in and not changeable. sure there is room for more voltage but for the sake of being able to put every single chip at the same voltage, there has to be a lower limit to ensure they can all do it.

recently a custom bios was written and voltages raised. the card was oc'ed on LN2 up to 2.8ghz!! that was supercooled on LN2 but shows there is some extra room for a bit more voltage.
