24gb Ram (16gb usable) - says 8gb hardware reserded?

I have a Dell precision T7500 which has 6 slots for ram. i recently purchased 24gb of ecc ram from dell (6x4gb) to fill up every slot. when i boot my computer i get a warning saying that they are in a non-optimal population configuration or something like that and when i check my system it says i have the full 24gb of ram in the system, but only 16gb are usable and in the task manager it says that 8gb are "Hardware reserved" any ideas?

Usually with ECC memory there is a specific order you need to place them in the RAM slots (or DIMMS). Check your computer's manual (Dell's website) and it should tell what slots to use when you have 3 sticks.
