is a gtx 980 worth getting today? im getting a new card and im wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience with the 980 and if you think it would be worth it to get it now

Depends on the budget you have, specs on the rest of the system and for what games and settings. For a good price, it may be worth getting over something like a 1070 if you have a higher end system. A 980 will be able to play new games for several years with no issues still. If it's worth getting now is a bit iffy. Maybe a good tested used one would be worth it, many people are going around selling their cards now to get the new ones. Craigslist is filling up with video cards for sale LOL
