So some months ago i upgraded my pc to windows 10 from windows 7(OEM). Then i had some problems and i had to change my cpu and my M/B. After that i installed windows 7(OEM) again and it works fine. Now i want to upgrade again but i am not sure if the windows 10 will activate since i have different M/B and CPU. Does anyone know if it will activate?

Solution

If your Win 7 is currently updated and activated, I see no reason why the Upgrade to 10 should not work.

Is it currently fully activated? If so, it should Upgrade to 10 with no problem.

you don't need your windows key anymore after upgrading to windows 10 because it will just activate via the internet once you install windows 10. i am not sure what the polocy is but changing your CPU and MB may have invalidated your windows 10 licence already. but i would again go ahead and try to get the free upgrade again if you already have 7 installed. just make sure you install SP1 and all updates to get the upgrade notice

Yea even tho i changed my M/B and cpu the windows 7 key that i was using before works fine, its fully activated. Now there is the case that the store that installed my M/B and cpu used a different key, but i doubt it. They would have propably asked me to pay for it.

You installed or they installed?
If they did, and did not charge you for an actual license...either they somehow used your original, or all bets are off as to what it is.

But, try the Win 10 Upgrade. See what happens.

I have all the updates, ecept the one that adds the pop-up since i dont really want it. I also used the mediacreationtool to download the installer, so i am gonna run the upgrade from there without the popup. And when it does upgrade i will do a clean install. I just want to be sure thats its going to work,.

They did install the windows and 99% they used the original key, since they asked me when i gave them the pc. I guess i will have to upgrade later this month or early next month and see how it goes. I am asking because i really dont want to install windows 3 times in one day, and because windows updates on windows 7 is a pain in the ass to make them work i was hoping for a sure answer :/

It worked fine. The windows activated after the upgrade and i was able to do a clean install after that with not problem*.

* I didnt have to do two times the clean install tho. I hope i wont have any problems from here on out.
