Not 100% sure if this will be a Mobo or CPU issue or both, but I intend to upgrade my Mobo and CPU and need to know how I can upgrade without having to reformat my PC. Windows 10 is my OS and I do have a disk for it as well hence it's inclusion. Thanks in advance.

Changing the motherboard and keeping the OS is always a 'maybe'
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Prepare for if it doesn't work.

And then you may run into activation issues. But that is usually easily fixed by calling MS. You call them AFTER it fails to activate, not before.

The Mobo is gonna be the same brand and general make, but an upgraded model believe.

This is my current Mobo and it's running Windows 10 with an i7-4790k CPU,

And this is my upgrade 1 with an i7-6600k CPU,

And my upgrade 2 with an i7-6800k CPU.

I'd like to upgrade both if it's possible to do so without having to reformat my HDD or if it's possible to have another partition.

Edit: Alternatively, if I can just forgo the entire Mobo upgrade and my current Mobo can support either CPU I mentioned just as well then that works too.

For the most part yes. I want to upgrade my CPU since I'm also upgrading my GPU to the 1080 Hybrid. At this point I'll probably just say no to the Mobo upgrade and simply up my CPU. The reason I was gonna do both is that the store I linked, Microcenter sells them individually or bundle at cheaper prices and was debating it if it was worth going for both or not.

No debate there. They use different sockets and chipsets, so.. honestly, i would just keep the 4790k adn get a new MB for it. you will see no performance difference whatsoever to an i7 6700k.

Until Intel(or AMD) releases 8C/16T CPUs at teh i7 pricepoint, you will probably have no incentive to upgrade.

If you have money burning your pocket check out these:

The PG348Q along with the Acer X34 Predator are widely considered to be the best gaming monitors ever made and for good reason: they hit the perfect balance of features: 34" 21:9 1440p 100Hz IPS with G-sync(which is a must!).

Also, they would go very well with that 1080 ;)

Based on your previous post, I take it there's no point to upgrading either the CPU or Mobo as the gains will be minimal. As for Monitors, I have that settled another way that works for me, but thanks. This actually narrows a few things down for me as now I can focus on other parts I wanted to upgrade(Cooler, Ram, etc.).

Correct. The 4790k is hugely capable and tehre would be impercievable gains(if any) when going to a 6700k.

Thanks for all the help. I'll leave off the CPU and Mobo upgrades for later and focus on just the GPU and a few others I'd like to do, but needed clarification on which to prioritize.
