Hi Guys,

Ignoring the Timings, Frequency and Size. Other than the look, are these two ram types different compatibility?

When i opened the laptop. the one similiar to the amazon link was in the laptop but the one i bought is from the crucial link. The pins are the same and both DDR3 but neither of the laptops i tested in worked. The Mac had a black screen and the ASUS (windows) kept coming up with a kernel error. Are the ones i bought faulty or incompatible?

I don't know about the ASUS, but Mac's usually need specific "FOR MAC" ram.
Don't ask me why or how. I also got exact spec ram for my MBP which wasn't 'for mac', and it didn't work.
Other generic stuff i got for my iMac worked, so it's just luck of the draw.

The look the same, if you're mixing and matching there could be an issue. Speed, timing, voltage or capacity might also cause a problem.

Just to clarify, did you replace the Kingston RAM with the Crucial RAM or did you use both of them in the laptop? Generally, it is not a good idea to mix ram even if it is the exact same make. They test RAM to make sure kits are compatible with each other. If you just replace a single RAM stick with the Crucial one, then the Crucial RAM could be faulty.
