Hi all,
I have a problem with my brand new FX-8350. Before I go on and on, I would like to list my specs:
FX-8350 @ 4.2 (stock)
R9 380x @ 1070/1500 (stock)
Gigabyte 970A-UD3P Mobo
16 Gb Ripjaws @ 1866mhz
PNY CS1311 240 Gb SSD
Seagate 1Tb HDD
andddddd...
Cooler master Geminii S524 ver.2.
Now, I know that this is not the best cooler in the world. If I thought about it a little harder I would have spent the extra $15-$20 on a larger case that would support a Hyper 212 evo. But I didn't. So I'm left with this mess to deal with.
But here's the weird thing: I previously had an FX-6300 @ 4.2GHz that ran fine. I mean it was great. Temps were manageable - not great, but manageable. I could play GTA V maxed out at 50-60 fps with temps never pushing past 65 degrees.
After installing an FX-8350 that I thought would be the greatest thing since sliced bread, I am far from thrilled in terms of its 1) performance in relation its smaller six-core little brother and 2) the damn temps. With the same settings in GTA V, I was getting 75-80 degrees, thermal throttling of course.
Of course I removed and reapplied thermal paste 3 times over with no avail trying to get temps that would not melt my system.
The reason I am reaching out to Tomshardware is because I really do not want to give this chip away. But with the 6300 being effectively better than my eight core "beast," what is the point in even keeping it?
If anyone can help me out, that would be great. Hopefully my spiel wasn't too long and lost the interest of some.
Thanks in advance for any information!!
-Wes
