Computer has problems starting up

When I press the power button of my computer, it does not turn on. I can press it a million times and it might work like once out of 100 times.

The only way to get my computer going is using the on/off switch on my PSU, if I keep switching it back and forth for a while, it eventually turns on.

In Windows, it sometimes freezes up for a second or 2 on Skype, and there's some spikes while playing a few games recently as well (yes, my computer has good enough specs for the game on ultra, the spikes even happen on low settings).

Does anyone know what the problem could be? It is a faulty PSU or?

Hello... if $$$ is no option? go that way... I buy Gibson over Epiphone any day B D
I don't get a chance to play with them all... and it's mystery till someone gets one... I just go by the label power ratings and GOOD reviews B /
Look at the warranties between the models too... between bronze and gold and plat. B /

Here is TH's latest greatest PS reviews for ya too read too...

Hello... it would be my first guess... sounds like you tested it enough... B D
1)Would you like some more tests to try?
1b) Look at the Case Power switch connector on the MB at J1
1c) check and re-connect all your MB Power connectors.
2) OR Do you need help finding a new one?
2b) Post a pic of your Power supply label for me.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, just wanted to hear some more opinions. Just ran a RAM test too, but that turned out flawless.

The booting process has been going like this for almost a year already, it surprises me it still boots after switching it so often.

I'll have to save up some money before deciding on a new PSU, I suppose.

Here's a picture of the PSU. It's a CoolerMaster.

Here's a picture of my Mainboard as well, it even has this "Start" switch on it, which does literally nothing either when I press it while the computer is off. So it does not work with the power button, nor with the button on the Mainboard. The only way to turn the PC on is by flicking the switch on the PSU for at least like 10-15 times.

Edit: The light of "START" on the mainboard, is on as well, even while the computer is off, yet it does nothing.

1) I've tried looking at it, but this doesn't seem to be the problem. See my latest post for additional information.

2) Here's the picturre of my PSU Label

Hello... to trace the power up circuit... B D
3.3V & GND comes from PS through the BIG MB connector, into the MB, traces to the Power SW Pins on (J1) out through the case Power SW wires, to the case switch.
these are the test points/devices B )

Wow 1000 watt ATX PS in there...

Don't have the tools here to measure the power circuit, sadly. But seeing the computer does not go on with the "START" button on the Mainboard itself either, I doubt it could be Power Pin on (J1).

Yeah, 1000watt, used to have plans to upgrade it later on, but meh.

Hello... I was going to suggest at least trying to un-connect and reconnect that BIG main PS connector to the MB... That is always where you find the connection problem... Just put pressure on it as your hitting the "ON" button... for a real quick test?

Want the bare min or extra this time around? you OC the CPU and/or GPU? and MAX eye candy?

Bit extra would be nice, just to have the possibility to upgrade later on if wanted. Right now I don't OC the CPU and/or GPU, seeing I want to be sure it stays stable, which it does not even right now, haha. Eye candy is not important really, the PSU is not visible at all.

The store doesn't matter all that much, I can find a store in my country afterwards.
Hmm, my GPU uses 2x8 I suppose, other than that I don't know.

Hello... sure link me a store to search B ) my sites will not be the same product choices here in the USA B /

* that BIG main PS connector to the MB... Just put finger pressure on it as your hitting the "ON" button... for a real quick test? That is always where you find the connection problem...

Hello... Typically they should have higher rated (temp/?) components in them... But you live in Norway, your ambient temperatures will be lower?... Seasonic has been around all time... Power supplies are their specialty B )

I'm seeing just over 400 watts of total system use, while gaming... from this article. B /

Look them over and come back for some further questions?

But in that case, wouldn't it be a better idea to get a Gold or Platinum one?
I'm sure it has been, haha, I just haven't got any experience with it and don't know anyone who uses it.

Yeah, it's not exactly all that warm here. But I don't know, I think in general I'd prefer something with a Gold or Platinum label then anyway, I suppose, just in case, I'd rather be sure it keeps working fine!
