Hello everyone,

My R9 290X has been giving me some really weird problems as of late. It's kind of hard to explain, but here goes.

First of all, my current set-up:

Processor: Intel 6700k Skylake
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance
Mobo: MSI Z170A Tomahawk motherboard
GPU: MSI R9 290X
HDD: 1x 500GB Seagate
1x 2 TB Seagate
1x 240 GB Corsair SSD
PSU: Corsair CX750 Non-modular

I don't overclock, and everything is running at stock speed. The PSU, HDD's (except SSD) and graphics card all came from my previous set-up. The HDD's have been wiped clean and have a fresh install of windows 10.

I've build the system myself into my old case. It's a coolermaster case that had done me justice over the years. It's still working like a charm, and temperatures are always good. The max i've seen is my R9 running at 85 degrees, but it normally doesn't get higher then 75-ish. The CPU runs at a max of 67 degrees under full load, idling at around 25 to 31. Other temps don't seem to change often.

The problem I'm experiencing, is odd graphic glitching. It doesn't happen on desktop, but it does happen when in-game or in program. I'm running a dual monitor set up. A 24" connected through DVI and a 32" HD TV connected through a DVI to HDMI cable. Sometimes, the computer renders an odd, white box or retangle on screen, which starts jumping around or disappearing when typing / things move. It seems to happen on textures in game as well. The boxes are almost always white. Alongside this, games also give flickering graphics. Sometimes complete objects even disappear, all without a loss of FPS. However, when I restart an app, the flickering disappears, until I tab out, and return to it. I've confirmed it to happen in Chrome, less demanding games like smite, but also in higher demanding games like GTA V.

I'm currently on the newest AMD driver (16.5.3) And Crimson. I have tried reinstalling older Drivers. Although some seem to work a little bit better, the problem seems to persist with anything i try. Is my graphics card dying, or is this a driver problem? Or is it something else entirely?

Given that most components are brand new, My most likely suspect is the graphics card.

What you are experiencing is artifacts. This is usually caused by overclocking, and usually its the memory overheating that does it. However if you are not overclocking and you can confirm your temps are 75 ish when this happens then your GPU is failing. If your temp is more in the 85 degree range then I would say you may have some overheating of the memory going on. You may want to try an additional fan before writing it off if thats the case.
