Complicated Problem about Gpus.

OK lets get started. I have $450 currently. My computer has a decent cpu but no gpu. The power supply will need to be replaced for anything over a 750 ti. I get $350 each december. With the new xbox scorpio in holiday 2017, I'm wondering if I should upgrade. Phil spencer stated that the console will have 6 or 6.5 teraflops. Thats equivalent to an nvidia 1070 which I was planning to get.

Option 1: Get a 750ti for gaming 2017. I would not have to upgrade the psu.

Option 2: Get an nvidia 960 and upgrade the Psu. (both of these options allow me to get the xbox scorpio)

Option 3: Get the nvidia 1070 and not get the scorpio.

I am hearing stuff about the scorpio being as powerful as a 1070. I don't want to get the 1070 and be on par with the scorpio. I'd rather buy a cheaper gpu but I still don't know.

Budget in 2016 Holiday: $740 to spend on either 1070, 750ti or 960. And no I'm not getting the 1080.

1070 = No Scorpio

750 Ti or 960 = Yes scorpio

If 750 Ti or 960, Tell me why?

I would also like to note I will be using it to record stuff for youtube. I could buy the 970 but that's about the 1070 which is too much or maybe. Thanks

What is the amount of time you can wait? I am waiting for the Ti but that could be a while.

- No: I would stay away from the Keplars as they are power hungry GPUs which would mean less overclocking head room and maybe (like you said) another PSU. Unless you can get a really smoking deal I wouldn't.

Option 2: Get an nvidia 960 and upgrade the Psu. (both of these options allow me to get the xbox scorpio)

- The Maxwell GPUs are still good GPUs. Yes they use more power then the new Pascals but what power supply do you have? Are you sure you will need an upgrade? If you can get a really good deal on one of these and want to wait for the Ti it might be a good...

In general, if you think you can wait, then wait. Because better hardware will inevitably become available.
However if you need good performance right this instant, then by all means get the best you can get. Even
the 1070 and the 1080 will soon be outpaced by even better hardware; so this shouldn't be the biggest concern.
While consoles are also getting better, they're still often limited in ways a PC isn't. Meaning that while you could
invest in a stellar console, you might not get as much out of your game(s) as you would on a PC. Here I'm thinking
of stuff like modding. While 6.5 Teraflops is pretty good, it still comes with limitations typically imposed by consoles;
such as the inability to upgrade the hardware before a new console is released.

Note, it also depends on which games you intend on playing and at which resolution. If you're intending on playing Pac Man
for the rest of your days, a 750 Ti will be more than enough in 2017. But if you're into games like Skyrim, then a 960 or 70
can definitely be worth it. It should also be said, that high-end GPUs by definition are less of a "smart buy", compared to
a solid mid-range card, due to both the price and the speed of which it becomes old.

Again you will not be able to overclock these as you would the Pascals but I am not sure if you are planning on overclocking.

Personally I would go with the 970 because it has just about the same power of a 980 just Memory Gate differences limiting it to 3.5 GB of efficient memory. This depends on the game resolutions you are running and how many monitors you have though.

Option 3: Get the nvidia 1070 and not get the scorpio.

- I don't understand what this means. Are you saying that with your current budget that you will not be able to afford both an X-Box Scorpio and the GTX 1070 or are you saying that the video capture for the new X-Box will not work with the 1070? I am guessing the former. If so then get the card now and who knows you may get some more money by the time of the X-Box release.
