Is this a normal gaming CPU temperature?

Hi all, I'm running a HP Envy 14t

8gb ddr3

4gb 950m GTX ( I overclocked, but then downclocked back to stock)

6700HQ processor.

When I'm playing Black ops 3 my cpu temp tends to stay at 75-78 C, but when I play Fallout 4 on low settings without any Godrays or some sort it starts off at jumping around 60-79 but a while later it goes as high as 85 degrees.. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT CERTAIN AREAS OF THE GAME, NOT EVERYWHERE, SOME PLACES IT JUST REMAINS AT 75..Is this a normal gaming temperature for a laptop? I tried a single cooling fan pad but It failed to keep it going. So I actually placed the laptop on TOP of a FAN.. you know the fan the normal big fans and it dropped the temp by 5-6 C but it still rose up to 88 max temp... help please :(

85c is a bit warm but it is to be expected when playing a demanding game like fallout 4 on a laptop, 75c is just fine. I believe the cpu will start throttling sometime around 90c (the cpu will lower its clock speed reducing performance in an attempt to cool off) thermal shutdown occurs past 100c. I would say your temps are normal.

If the laptop was cooler than that earlier in its life I would check for dust blocking the heatsink or fans and blow it out with some compressed air. Your temps should be fine but there may be some options in your bios to raise the cpu fan speed that may help cool it off a bit more at the sacrifice of more noise, if you want.

Thank you for response, For the "earlier life" I cannot say anything because I have been playing mostly 2012-2014 games which were very easy for this PC and CPU temp barley rose from 65 degrees.. My latest games where ACS fallout 4 and black ops 3. ACS went up to 75-80 degrees and black ops stayed at 75ish.. but fallout seems to be a big strong for it. I'll try and see If I can raise the fan speed.. And by the way does GPU over clock affect the CPU heat in any way?

I'm a newbie in these stuff..

If stock clock, it's around 60-75 while CPU is 80-85 ... in fallout 4...

and I couldn't find a way to increase fan speed. BIOS doesn't have the option and SpeedFan only works for desktops not laptops.. Any idea on the fan thing m8>?
