I run dual 1080p monitors, and have had this PC running gloriously for over 2 years until recently. When both monitors are connected, after exiting games or stress tests, within seconds after exit the screens go black and my GPU fan speeds to 100%. No restart, no shutdown, just stays like that indefinitely when it happens.

When I disconnect my second monitor (first monitor running DVI second one I disconnected running HDMI cable) the problem disappears completely, and it runs perfectly fine. What on earth is going on?

Come to think of it, I was experiencing some driver has stopped responding but has recovered errors after updating to the most recent driver. I rolled them back in Windows (8.1) and the issue was fixed or so it seemed. Then this started happening. I have since reinstalled the newest driver but I have not completely removed the drivers with DDU or anything and reinstalled. I have a new GPU on the way so I want to wait until it gets here to do that but I wanted to ask to see if it's truly the GPU or driver issues and not something like my mobo or CPU or RAM. Funds are tight so I couldn't replace any other components for a few months at least.

That's the first thing I tried. And it persisted. Added the newest ones back after that, still happened. It really confuses me that it only happens when I exit something intensive and only when both monitors are connected. Also, GPU temps were 60 C when it happened last.

I have new information. I tried switching HDMI cables to a brand new one, and now I'm noticing red flickering dots during videos on the second monitor (they are not there on regular google browser pages, only over the video). I'm beginning to think the HDMI port in my GPU is broken. Could this have been my issue all along?

Could be, try replacing the GPU. Try other ports on the graphics card if there are any
