Is a Xeon E5-2643 build worth it in 2016?

Hello everyone, I have searched for a bit for this and cannot really find anything regarding this particular cpu. I have acquired a Xeon E5-2643 for free basically. All I would have to do is buy a motherboard and ram and basically have a system, I already have all the other components laying around. Its a 3.3ghz up to a 3.5ghz (turbo) 4 core with hyperthreading. So basically an i7 with no onboard graphics (which is fine, I have a gtx 780). The motherboards I can find for it are ridiculously expensive for an X79 that they dont even make anymore. Would it still be worth it though to shell out the cash for it and build a system out of it knowing all I have to get is a new mobo for it? I currently use an AMD FX-8350, would it be an improvement over that or about the same? Thanks for any help!

The Xeon E5-2643 is still a very capable processor. It's should perform similarly to i7 2600 with more cache. It would be an improvement over fx 8350 for gaming, but not much for everything else. I am not sure it's worth it since x79 boards will probably set you back $200.
