Xfinity 75 mbps router recommended

I have an old motorola surfboard sbg6580. And I think it's my bottleneck. I recently got xfinity 75 mbps plan and am getting about 35 mbps, per xfinity speed test via wifi.

Am I right in assuming my router is holding up the speeds?
Any advice on what I should check?

If I need a new one, any recommendations on good routers at an affordable price?

I assume since this topic is under wireless then you are using wireless. First thing to do is to connect to the router with an ethernet cable and test that way. If it test okay that way then its your wireless. That router is 802.11n. If you are using the 2.4ghz band then it is hard to get better than 35Mb/s. Using the 5ghz band you should be able to get much closer to the 75Mb/s (assuming the wireless in your device can do it).
