No, you will not be playing games in a 4K resolution with ultra settings. sorry. maybe about low-medium settings, depends on the games really.

You can run most games at a high-ultra setting in a 1080p resolution.

just play at 1080p heck, you will be able to get 2K res fairly well so why not just settle for in between. I really feel people are making too big of a jump going 1080p to 4K, there's so many great resolutions in between that are much much more achievable and look fantastic.

Even with these new 1080 series GPU's I still feel 4K res is not a realistic goal yet for the average consumer, if you happen to have thousands of dollars laying around, then sure 4K high-ultra is an achievable goal.

Turned into a bit of rant, sorry...

I think you will have very playable framerates at 1440p high settings.

the framerate will vary , but i can guarantee you will find a good balance of nice graphics and smooth fps with a 970.

I for example have a 144hz monitor, and only a gtx 960, so I do actually make the trade for lower settings for higher fps.

I have one of my PC's with a 970, MSI, and I can play Witcher 3 with medium/high settings mostly, at about 25-35 FPS. Every game is different though. But it wasn't a bad experience at all, same as a console with about 4x the clarity. I'd say use it for single players at least.
