Hello everyone,

A warm thread from a cold and soggy England. I have recently come into some money and have been looking at building a new machine/upgrading my existing one.

At present I have two options. Upgrade my current rig from

i5-4570 to a i7 4790k (As I am now doing a lot of video editing)
gtx 970 single to 1070SLI (when released)
16gb ddr3 corsair vengeance ram.
850w EVGA psu

or basically go for a new build where the best I can get for the money will be
i5 6600k
and a single gtx 1070. (Maybe a 1080)
8gb ddr4 ram
850W Evga Gold

As I would like to keep the existing rig If I am going to build a new one.

Would you say it's a better investment to just upgrade the gpu and cpu's in my current rig rather than spring for a whole new rig and just sell my existing i5 and 970?

Sorry for poor grammar and sentence structure I am totally exhausted.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Kind regards

YJ

For your use case, i would advise going with your first option.

Video editing/rendering will make good use of the 4790k's hyperthreading, and it will match a 6600k for gaming performance.

As for the GPU upgrade, I would suggest going for single 1080 over SLI 1070, unless your running a 4K monitor.
