File not downloading onto correct drive

Im currently downloading a 37GB file and having problems with my storage. I set the save location to my D drive(HDD) but my C drive(SSD) space is getting less and D drive stays the same during the download. when i go to C drive and go to properties of 'Users' it shows that it contains about 40gb of data. when I go to properties of the file 'Divan' it also shows 40gb. but when i open folder, highlight all contents and open properties it only shows about 9gb of data? Is the file actually saving to C drive but shows in D drive?? I am very confused

"Downloading", with what application? From where?
It might be a case of it going to a temp file first, and then off to the D drive.
