Hello, I am new to the community and I have a problem with my PC of 1 year.
It is an own build, done by a friend who now lives in australia.

I noticed quite a few times, that the power button sometimes woudln't work, but when i pressed it a few times it would boot up, sometimes i also had to hold it for 30'', and then it would work. For me it seemed, that the amout of times this happend increased alot lately, until 2 days ago, when i failed to boot it completely. The next day it would work again with the repeated pushing. Now it doesn't work again.

I tried to test the power button by "jumping" the power pins directly on the motherboard, but nothing happend.
Me, as an amateur, I guess it could be the psu or the mobo, but I don't think it's the psu, since the led on the mobo and cpu shine bright like a diamond, also, as soon as the pc boots, it can do everything, run extensive programs/ games for hours without problems, so I cannot really imagine that it would lack the power to boot. I tried pluging out some vents to reduce the wattage, but it didn't change anything. What are your opinions? Should I get a new mobo or rather a psu? Shall I hope that it boots one more time and then just never shut it down again? ;)
It's just driving me crazy. Since it was working for so long I can rule out false wiring or a missing link. Something is breaking inside but I have no clue how to find out what it is. I'd really appreciate your help/ experiences :) (and yes, i controlled all the wires inside)

Thanks in advance, and i hope you understood my english

Yeah thats possible, that old psu probably doesn't output the right wattage anymore or it might be just randomly stops giving power. My pc would start up then but my psu couldn't get enough wattage so the power fell off randomly.

Still most of the time psu's just die and won't give power anymore.

Well you say you checked the wires inside, so you probably checked your sata connections just to make sure.

Was this problem already present at the beginning? Or did it only start after some time?

Could you give us the other specs of your pc?

It could be anything really, I had pc's not boot because of a dying graphics card so.

I seeem to have found the problem: I connected a old psu of a very old computer, and it booted on the first button press. so it seems to really be a broken power supply unit. does that make sense? That it can still play everything as soon as it is booted, but lacking the power to boot up? strange things happen indeed.
