My Hitachi 2TB HDD that I've had for a couple months has always made this grinding noise. But (I think) it works fine. S.M.A.R.T. test said it was fine also.
As captaincharisma stated, back up data immediately. If the drive is only a couple months old I would check the warranty info and try to RMA it or return it.
EDIT: Try a program called Hard Disk Sentinel. Ive had instances where SMART didnt detect anything but Hard drive Sentinel stated the hard drive was less than 100% health.

some drive have louder read/seek sounds. some of the older 5 inch drives that were used is compaq were louder then your drive is now. if you dont like it see if the store will return it. if you try an rma it you may get a used drive. rear the rma warranty see if it a new drive with full warranty. myself i leave it alone till smart warning.
Well, just found out this drive I bought off Amazon was from "Finity India". Could've gotten bashed around on the way here to USA. It's write speeds fluctuate from 500kbps to 75mbps (average about 20mbps). I copied Program FIles (x86), which is 107GB, to Desktop. Just heard it click a few times..
