Hi guys,

So on the weekend, i accidentally dropped my laptop a little bit and then the blue screen came on and i couldn't start my laptop without it looping (not even on safe mode).

I took it to the computer store and they said the hard drive broke and that i needed a new one. So now I have a new hard drive on my laptop and i installed the OS and i have my previous hard drive attached in a usb configurement.

I downloaded EaseUS data recovery yesterday to recover my data but for some reason the hard drive has now become something called "Lost Partition". Im not sure what i did as i was just extracting and downloading the data but the program froze so i restarted the computer.

Can someone please help me? How do i get the data off my old hard drive?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, Jay!

I'd strongly recommend you attempt to run some diagnostic tests on the HDD before trying any data recovery attempts by yourself. This would put your files in greater danger and potential risk of data loss, especially since you are not aware of the amount and type of damage on the drive.

Your best bet on getting your files back would be the assistance of a professional data recovery company. In the future, I'd advise you to keep at least two copies of your files stored on different drives/storage locations. This is the surest way to avoid further data-loss headaches.

Good luck!
