I'm looking to save money by not getting and optical drive and cases that facilitate it, but my Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 motherboard has no usb 2.0 ports. I've heard that these are needed for installing win 8/8.1 from a usb drive.

EDIT: I've finding out that I can use this to connect a boot drive, however it would still be easier for me to use the ports I already have and would like to know if it's possible.

Solution
Depends on the MB. My motherboard would not allow any usb installers until I used a windows 7 install disk to install windows 7, install the drivers, and then install Windows 10 (and Ubuntu) via usb.
