Windows cannot be installed to Disk. Need disk controller in bios?

If you have a driver support cd/ dvd for the laptop brand and model number dig it out.
If you do not, go to the Asus website and support section for the model number of the laptop you have.

Download all of the drivers from the driver support section including the sata drivers.
If they are zipped or rared, extract the files and folders to a usb flash drive using another laptop or system.

Once done

Place your windows 8.1 setup and install dvd in the laptops dvd drive.
Press any key to continue setup.

When you get to the page of where it asks you where, or what hard disk drive you wish to install windows too.

If you look to the bottom left you will see the add driver, or load drivers option in blue writing.
Click on it.

Place your usb flash drive into any usb port of the laptop.
Click on the drive letter for the usb flash device and navigate to the folder for the Sata driver you downloaded.
Click in side the folder and you will see a file, click on it and then select ok.

Once the driver has been installed the main window where it asks you what hard drive, or disk partition you wish to install windows 8.1 to, hi light it with a left click in the main display window.

Click on next to continue the install and installation of windows 8.1 on the laptop.

The install should complete without the error of disk controler not found.
If you have the Sata mode in the bios set to either Ahci mode or Sata mode.

This is how you pre install a sata driver before the setup and installation of windows if the install halts saying it cannot find the connected drive or controler XTempered.

I suggest you leave the Sata controler in Ahci mode in the bios first of all.
If you do exactly what I have typed above windows 8.1 will install properly without any errors.

You can use the same process if you have the windows installation it`s self installed on a usb flash drive during the setup of windows 8.1.

The last bit of advice here is to look in the bios of the laptop and make sure the option of enable detection of legacy usb devices is turned on.

As on some boards when windows begins to install ect it looses sight of the usb flash drive unless usb legacy devices is enabled in the bios.
