In my experience when a breaker trips it doesn't move itself into the off position, more like the middle. Newer breakers sometimes have an orange bar that is a visual notification that the breaker has tripped. If you are continually tripping the breaker you are either putting to much load on it, there is a short somewhere in that circuit, or it may be old. If it is getting hot to the touch leave it off and let it cool down. If you verify there are no shorts anywhere, and you have a normal load, then it may be time to replace the breaker. I recently replaced all my breakers because a couple tripped for no reason, were hot, and were just old.
