Motherboard and caviar green booting

Hey all,

I recently installed a different motherboard (p8z68-v pro/gen3) and I have a bit of a strange problem. All works fine except the system won't boot with my WD caviar green harddrive attached. The 'go to bios page' shows and hangs whenever it's attached while I can't get in the bios either (no response to keyboard).
When it's detached I can enter the bios however (and it boots normally) and if I attach the harddrive after windows is loaded it works fine too.

Hopefully this sounds familiar to anyone, no clue how to solve it..

Hi there Pirrewiet,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
Have your reinstalled Win on the new MOBO? In case you haven't, it may be a good idea to do so.
Do you have important data stored on the WD drive?

My suggestions would be:
- Go to BIOS and remove the HDD from the boot order, in case it is over there.
- If the issue persists, you can attach it with different cables(both SATA and power ones) to another SATA port.
- Go to your MOBO's website and update drivers.
- If none of these works, then you can attach it externally after your system has already booted, back up the data and test it with WD's DLG too. Run both short and extended tests: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=NgXEIQ

Let me know how...

By the way I reinstalled windows 10 and everything was working fine with the previous motherboard (a much cheaper one).
Also, windows runs on an SSD, the WD caviar green is a regular harddisk and I've tried to attach it by means of sata and usb (same result, boot hangs).

Plug the drive in while the PC is running via USB, and run a defrag over it. Sounds like either a very fragmented drive, or a recognition issue.
Is there any critical data on the drive?
Given what you've said already, if nothing helps, you may have to keep it as an external drive and just plug it in after boot which would be a pain. ^.^

Oh! right I forgot to mention that! :)
The old motherboard bios may be interfering with your current motherboard BIOS.
Uninstall ALL your motherboard bios drivers and reinstall the updated version of your current motherboard and see how it goes.
