New MSI GTX 1080 possible bottleneck on csgo?

So I just bought a new MSI gtx 1080. Seems like a great card, I upgraded from a 760. So a pretty big upgrade. However, I think I have a bottleneck going on with my cpu. I have an i7-3770k with it turbo'd to 4.0 which my heat can get up to 80 and at one point absolute max temp reached was an 85 at one point, however it doesn't ever stay that range for more than a second or two. Temps hover around 70-75 on 4.0. With Cpu load around 40%, gpu load around 15%, can be 20-25 if I'm playing on 1080p, but I rarely play at that res in csgo.

I'm getting micro stutters, sometimes quite long stutters since I put this card in. I played total war warhammer for maybe 10 mins, on ultra quality, GPU load was at 98-99% while the cpu load was much lower. (forget exact load %) but didn't get any stuttering. Which makes me think it's not the card having some kind of issue, as games work smooth with a higher gpu load then csgo which is a cpu hog.

I wasn't getting these stutters before the card though, maybe occasionally, once or twice a game, but not at the frequency or length I'm getting now. I turbo'd the cpu to a day or two before I put the gpu in to 4.4 and bluescreened it twice, so maybe I just f'd it?

I have a z77 mobo, sound blaster sound card, a dedicated nic, and 4gb rip jaws of ram in the machine.

When I installed new drivers, I did make sure to check clean install on the geforce expereince software. I run the game @ 144hz, but I don't think that matters. I cap fps at 160 which keeps temps lower, and cpu usage lower as well.

Try a different monitor program like Coretemp or whatever mobo sensors you have. I'm waiting for my MSI 1080 Gaming X to arrive tomorrow. I'm currently running a 970 gaming 4g and an I7-2600K@4.6

Couple other things that could be happening is low ram and sound card. You had no problems until the 1080? If it was ok until now, I'd focus on drivers. You did clean install of Nvidea xperience but how about uninstalling driver completely , then reinstalling.

1080 GTX bottleneck on CSGO.... HAHAHAHA... yeah right... at what resolution? 8k?

Seriously no. Bad drivers and the fact you are at 1080p. You need to limit your FPS since your card is running too fast. Limit your FPS to 60 FPS using the Frame Rate Target Control.

Not to be rude because I genuinely thank you for caring to post and try to help but your post is not helpful at all and riddled with absolute pure inaccuracy. First, there is absolutely no reason I should have to limit my fps in the game. 144hz monitor should never run at 60fps....Also, I know the title may be misleading, but that is not what I am saying is bottlenecking my game. I did state that I think it may be my 3770k (which is a cpu). I litterally have no idea but what you mean when you say limit your fps because the gpu is running to fast. That is not at all how the gpu or PC for that matter works. The GPU runs at a percentage that is needed to play the game. I literally spell that out in my post that the gpu is only used about 15-20% while playing CSGO, because the game is a CPU dependent game.

Well it definitely should not be your cpu when gaming at 1080. I play CSGO with a 3770k stock and Sapphire 7950 vapor x and get 100 plus frames with no stutters or other issues. No way your cpu is bottlenecking. Maybe drivers like others have said. I have a z77 and 8 gb of ram. So pretty similar systems.

Hey guys, so I figured it out. It was my cpu - I had it on a turbo oc through the mobo @ 4ghz. The volts were set auto at a fairly high I think 1.3+ volts which was making the card run hotter than it should. Did a manual OC to 4.2ghz at 1.22v and it runs much cooler, and it's like playing a new game. So smooth. Thanks for the help and replies!

Glad you found your solution. I used my mobo's overclock function to bring up my 2600K to 4.6 and it works really well for just a lazy one button press solution. I wonder if i'll get better results manually. I kind of hate to mess with it since it's working great and stable.

What struck me was why is your CPU running at 80'C? (85'C is far too hot.) That's shockingly hot.

I have an i5-4690 and it barely ever hits 55'C in games. It only hits about 58'C when I stress test it 100% for a good time. My CPU cooler is a Noctua NH-U12S.

You need to sort it out.
