I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on a 1920GB Mushkin Scorpion Deluxe SSD. One issue is that SSDs that use PCIe have their own NVMe, since they do not use the one on the motherboard, as opposed to regular ole' SSDs that use a SATA connection.
As far as I can tell, Mushkin has not provided NVMe drivers - neither in the SSD box in the form of a disk nor on their website. On their website, drivers for LSI software are provided only.
How do I get this darned thing to work with Windows 7?
Apparently there's "hotfixes" for windows 7 that may solve this issue but this is going to be a clean install of windows 7 on a computer without a bootable drive besides the optical drive, the SSD and any USB slots.
I should also mention, this computer belongs at work and the SSD is a replacement for another PCIe SSD that crashed and could not be recovered. This same copy of windows 7 used to be on that drive, so it's tied to the motherboard. How they configured their BIOS settings or obtained the necessary drivers to have Windows 7 on their PCIe SSD in the first place is beyond me, and no one at work knows even remotely how this works. The old SSD was the same exact model as this Mushkin PCIe SSD.
Just to throw another wrench into this machine, the 2 TB are split into 4x 500 GB drives and the idea here is to run it in RAID 1 in order to minimize some of the damage if it somehow crashes. The last SSD that crashed was running in RAID 0. I was able to use the LSI software to select RAID 1 for the new SSD, but it did not let me select which drives to use and did not give any real indication that it was configured correctly beyond just asking if it was okay to erase all data before changing the configuration.
One possible solution would be to spend some money on a new HDD, install Windows 7 on that, then transfer it to the SSD and then configure it to RAID 1. The only issue with this is purchasing a new hard drive, which isn't that expensive but it would take some time to procure it through work and I'd like to get it to work ASAP. We have other HDDs but they contain valuable data and doing a clean install of Windows 7 without already having some version of Windows would wipe the drive clean. Also, yes it HAS to be Windows 7 because all of our expensive, powerful analysis and imaging software is optimized for 7. 8 and 10 are out of the question.
I know this is quite a bit of info and I may not be the most knowledgeable on RAID, LSI and stuff but I think there could be some kind of solution here and I am definitely willing to learn some necessary information, no matter how long-winded.
For reference, the MOBO is Asus Sabertooth of some variety (the logo is blocked by a massive R9 295X2 and like 3 water cooling radiators and I'm not too comfortable disassembling this expensive work computer). The CPU is an i7 4790K.
