Hello
I have a GTX 750ti EVGA FTW currently and i got a game called ARK: Survival Evolved.
While i was playing the game i noticed it was not running so well due to the 2GB of VRAM i had, as it was using all of it.
The 960 seems to be the cheapest card that has 4GB of VRAM. The only other card is the GT 740 but that would be a downgrade from my 750ti.
Should i get the GTX 960 or is there a better choice?
I'M ON A TIGHT BUDGET and I would like to stay with Nvidia.
My monitor is a cheap 1600x900. I need more VRAM more than i need GPU performance.
Thanks

If you're on a budget with an Nvidia preference, then your options are:

1) GTX 960 4GB (absolutely get the 4GB version)
2) GTX 950, a few percent under the GTX 960, but still an upgrade from your 750 Ti
3) Wait until the GTX 1060/1050 is released, which will likely be sooner than you think.

I haven't played Ark Survival, but i can vouch for the 960. It'll run pretty much anygame at high resolution 60fps. As well as being able to record at high resolution as well!

Don't get the 4GB version. Benchmarks have been run, and it gives no additional performance gains over the 2GB variation.
In terms of budget the 960 is good if you're buying new, but if you can find a cheap GTX 970 perhaps second hand on Ebay or Craigslist, that would be well worth it. In regards to running every game on high at 60fps, that is highly situational.
Some games like GTA you may need to turn down a few sliders in order to achieve 60. Others you will be fine.

Since new generation GPUs are coming very soon there is zero reasons to buy 960 now. It would be wise to wait for a month or two and you can get close to double performance that of 960 for the same price.

That was the assumption that a lot of people made when the 4GB version of the 960 came out but it turns out that it isn't true. At least not in every game. Also the 2GB 960 has pretty much been replaced by the 4GB version so there isn't much price difference between the two anymore.

Check out this Doom benchmark. The 4GB 960 averages 71.6 FPS while the 2GB 960 averages 59.3 FPS. That is a pretty significant difference.

Actually that depends. On the majority of games yes 2GB is equal to 4GB in the 960s case, but in some cases the 4GB gives up to 10fps more than the 2GB counterpart.

Huh, that's news to me! :)
Watched several videos and read some reviews when the 4GB version released which compared the two in The Witcher, BF4, GTA etc. and all of them had the exact same results.
I guess devs are utilizing VRAM more and more nowadays, maybe the drivers are better targeted now.
Thanks for informing me, at least now I know. :D

No problem. However the amount of games it does better in is still quite slim. It took quite a lot of research on benchmarks when I finally came upon a couple that actually showed the 4GB doing better for once.

Waiting for the GTX 1060 is a good idea. I personally am waiting to buy the GTX 1060 Ti to replace my GTX 750 ti.

I would of waited for the 480 (I saw it was coming out a long time ago) but there is 2 things wrong:
No digital vibrance setting (I want that)
No VGA support (I am happy with my monitor and i don't have $200 to get a new one, making this cost $400

New cards are always more expensive

I said i was on a budget and a $400 card is way too much
