Hi,

I currently have a 660GTX, and have been contemplating for a while to upgrade to a 970GTX once the 1070GTX is released, but then heard about the 3.5GB limitation and then I thought it would be nice to be future proofed for a while with the 1070GTX

Also through my research, the 480X seems quite attractive, but my only worry is that it may be power hungry.

I game on a 1080p screen and have the followings specs (from the top of my head):

i7 2600
8GB DDR3 RAM
600W PSU
Micro-ATX Motherboard

Any advise is greatly appreciated, thanks!

imo gtx 970 because of your current setup. and 1070 might end up bottlenecking because the rest of your system isnt up to par. 970 might even have this problem but would work out better than 1070. also the whole 3.5 gig thing is mostly sorted now I think

I highly doubt that i7 2600 is going to bottleneck even on a gtx 1080.

What power supply do you have?
I would go with a gtx 1070 to future proof your system recommended power supply for gtx 1070 is 500 watts.
Some of those 630w power supplies have low amperage rails depending on the brand.

I currently have a 600W Corsair PSU - I just found out based on an old thread I made years ago - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/349187-33-graphics-card

I had a quick look at game-debate and they were suggesting to have 16gb RAM for optimal peformance - http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/?gid=3505&graphics=GeForce%20GTX%201070

is it a 2600K or just a regular 2600? If you could overclock it that would help a good bit. The 1070 will outperform the 480 but at about double the cost. The 480 already has leaked benchmarks all over the place showing it to be just above a 390x (overclocked 290x) and under a 980 so it is a great performer if the numbers are right for the cost but the 1070 would be a better choice over all. Faster single card setups always are the way to go at first. Then sli or xfire later and since amd does not and will not have a single high end fast card solution until vega i would stick with nvidia or wait out the rest of the year for nvidia and amd to both drop their next round of cards. Nvidia should be popping out the titan and the 1080ti as well as amd dropping vega.

I got the 970 GTX now as I would have to upgrade other parts for the 1070 and I had bought the 970 for good price.

Now I have an issue installing it - it beeps several times on load with the HP screen and that's all I get
