I am having issues with my apparent power draw thru my seagate external hard drive to 300 watt power supply. I have a seagate backup plus desktop 4 TB hard drive. IT IS USB 3.0 connection and it connects to an Anker usb. usb 3.0 card, with 4 pin power supply molex connector so the anker USB 3.0 card draws power to the power supply, and data on the motherboard.
I replaced the anker card with a second one -a new one- and still same issue.
I think the problem is the 300 watt hp power supply of my hpe pavilion 560z computer
is not strong enough.
IT is STDT4000600, P/N 1KBAY2-570
** when I use the drive its fine. but when I make large file transfers it disconnected the USB 3.0 connection with a USB error code-like during a windows 7 backup.
**does anyone know how to find the POWER WATTAGE DRAW on the dc side-so I can RATE a new power supply?
