I have found many threads here of people looking to upgrade their GPU on this chipset, however, I have already upgraded mine 3 times. I am currently using a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650.

However, I find that my CPU is bottle-necking my PC, and I need to upgrade the CPU so that I can play some of my games on something a bit nicer than bare minimum settings.

Here is what I have currently:

System

  • Manufacturer HP-Pavilion
    Model AY014AA-ABA a4310f
Total amount of system memory 16.0 GB RAM
    System type 64-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 2 (AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor)

Graphics

  • Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Total available graphics memory 4096 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory 1024 MB
    Dedicated system memory 0 MB
    Shared system memory 3072 MB
    Display adapter driver version 10.18.13.6839
    Primary monitor resolution 1440x900
    DirectX version DirectX 10

I am looking to find an upgrade for my CPU that is both compatible with my motherboard and GPU, however, websites like PCPartPicker do not seem to have my motherboard on their lists. So I am at a loss. I hope someone here can help, and thank you in advance.

The best CPU you're going to get for your board is a Phenom II X4 with a 95 Watt TDP, 125 Watt CPUs are not supported by your board. Something like the 95 Watt version of the Phenom II X4 965 is probably your best bet. Problem is the Phenom IIs are rather old now, and they might not be the greatest performers in newer games, particularly since you have an HP system you'll have no overclocking capability. I would suggest you start saving up for a new build, and that you not spend a whole lot of money keeping your rather old system alive, it's not really worth it. If you absolutely have to stick with what you have, hopefully you can find a Phenom II X4 for a reasonable price.
