Hi all, just a quick question. Looking to upgrade my current gtx730 with this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Nvidia-Version-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B00SJ8FZZ0/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465981960&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+960+mini

My question is whether it will fit on my Aspire T3-710 motherboard? I have measured the PCI-e slot up to what I believe is a power plug to the front usb's/mic on the motherboard next to the PCI-e slot, and I have roughly 17.1cm space to fit this GPU in.

However I believe the amazon specs are wrong with their published 13.6 measurement as both Gigabytes website and other independent review websites state its both 16.8 and dead on 17cm. So which is it? >.<

And if it is dead 17cm would it be too risky to try and fit it in? (as it would be right up against this other small plug I mentioned)

Many thanks in advance for the help :)

(EDIT) Some more motherboard info:

Chipset: Intel Skylake
Southbridge: Intel Skylake PCH
LPCIO: ITEIT8613

Ah! I understand now. The 181mm includes the bracket, which won't be 'inside' the case - the added length of the bracket is so it can be screwed into the case. The card itself (the portion that'll go inside the case) is 17cm. Wow, that wasn't very clear, thanks Gigabyte!

Those pics are exactly what I was looking for. The USB2.0 cable won't cause any issues at all. It's thin enough, the card will just sit overtop. The 3.0 port/cable is the only one I can see causing an obstruction. Taking a rough guess, you have 160mm in length on your GPU, another 10mm to the 2.0 port (which is roughly another 10mm long) and another 10mm on the other side before you impact the 3.0 port.

So, by that reasoning, you should be able to...

There are many variants. I agree the Amazon listing appears incorrect. The length of the GPU as per Gigabyte is 181mm:
http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5439#ov

From info I can find online, the space available for your GPU is between 5.7" and 6" (14.5cm to 15.25cm).
Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to find a GTX960 that will fit.

Another consideration though, the PSU included in the T3-710 is only 220W. The GT 730 is a ~50W card. In order to get by without replacing the GPU too, I'd say the max you should safely consider would be 55-60W max.

A ~50-60W card, 6" or less in length really narrows down your options.
Most of the options that exist, are going to be steps down (GT 710, R7 240 etc)

The only card that would be an improvement would be the 750TI

Unfortunately, the space is your limiting factor. Even if you replace your PSU with something more powerful, the only 'better; option in that length is the R9 Nano @ 400GBP

Damn, that's a bit of bummer if that turns out to be the case. I had read that people had used this card on the same board, perhaps the sizes really do vary that much between manufacturers. Also you mention this Gigabyte card is actually 181mm, but on your link to Gigabyte it says 17cm? I know it's only 1.1cm but if it fits... haha :p Also would be disconnecting the small plug that powers the front usb/mic be an option to free up additional leg room for a new GPU next to the pci-e slot be a bad idea pc health wise? Apart from the inconvenience of no front usb/mic etc?

Yes I forgot to mention I would be changing the PSU too, I had this in mind: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020048-UK-Builder-Bronze-Supply/dp/B009RMP44O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465995561&sr=8-1&keywords=Corsair+CX600+CP-9020048-US+600W+Power+Supply

Thanks for the response! :)

The board itself doesn't matter too, too much. The front panel connectors are the edge of the board can generally be bent a little to accommodate almost any card. You're mostly concerned with the available space in the case as far as GPU length. Measure the length of your current card, and the additional space behind it (if any). Provided there are not huge cables (that can't be bent etc), you should be able to utilize the majority of the space for a new GPU.

If the connectors are only USB/MIC (and not power etc), then disconnecting will only remove the use of those ports.

You could even take a picture (ideally with a measuring tape or ruler to show the exact available length) and the inside of the case - post it here.

I'm not sure where you keep seeing 17cm. Following the Gigabyte link I posted (which is the exact same card you linked on Amazon) and the dimensions are 181x136x42mm (LxWxH) - I see no mention of 17cm/170mm.

The CX line isn't the best. 600W @ 50GBP? I'd spent the little extra for a quality unit.

Ah that's good, so no damage by removing/slightly bending the cable then. So I guess I could technically attempt the 960 itx and at a push remove/slightly bend the cable. If it's no good I could fall back onto the 750Ti if thats the case I suppose! Which also seems like a great card. The case I'm using is this, which is big enough for the cards in question I believe: https://dstatic.computeruniverse.net/images/1000/906185396DCA3556641D49CB9A16DB25.jpg

I will try and get a pic of the inside soon :)

Also thank you for the link to the other PSU, I'm not too informed on PSU brands, so that is very helpful of you :)

How strange, when I click that link it goes to the Gigabyte site I was referring to in my first post, then when you scroll down it shows the GPU with a measurement or 17cm beneath the card. Here is what i'm seeing when I click the link: https://postimg.org/image/n196qrks1/ (EDIT) Just noticed they have a different size listed (the 181mm you mentioned) in the specs tab, whilst it says 17cm to the product home page. That's helpful of them haha.

Thanks very much for the continued help! :)

Some photos of the board:

It's about 17.1cm to the GPU side of the USB 2.0 plug. But if I can slightly move that if needs must as you say, I should be good with the 960itx? As case wise there's a fair bit of leg room (about 3cm/4cm more) until you hit the large (power?) cable near the front (pictured)

So, by that reasoning, you should be able to comfortably use cards up to ~190mm in length (just shy of 7.5", which is a fairly common length of 'small' GPUs). That should give you lots of options.

The 960 you linked should have no issues at all. There's also a 4GB version of the same card (in the same link you provided) for marginally more.

With that kind of spacing, there's even a GTX970 available too: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Kqs8TW/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970ixoc4gd

Ah that is actually the perfect outcome. I was so concerned I would have a right headache on my hands haha. Thanks ever so much for all your help, the difference a second pair of eyes makes. I shall be looking forward to tinkering with it all now once I get paid :D

And yes, Gigabyte could do with making a few edits to avoid future confusion for people haha! :D

I also will look into both of those cards now I have the space! It's mainly to play some of the latest RTS games so the more powerful the card the better I guess!

Thanks again!

Regards, Ritchie

If you can afford to hold off a little while, I'm sure there will be 'short' variants on the GTX 1070 in the near(ish) future. If it's something you want to extra power now, then I'd suggest the 970. The 960 doesn't really perform enough 'better' over the 950 to justify the additional cost (at least in the US/Canada - not 100% sure on UK prices). The 970 is a better 'performance vs outlay' option.
