I have a Western Digital My Passport Ultra 1TB external, hooked up via a USB port. When I try to copy things to the drive, it takes FOREVER. I suspect it's the port. If I'm correct, what are my options to correct this and improve the transfer speed? Please talk to me like I'm 5 years old. Thanks.

Hi there ajjava,

Well, this slow transfer speed could be caused by several things. Basically these are: drivers, failing drive, connections(cables, ports)

The first thing you may really want to do is to back up the important data stored on the drive. After that, you can test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diangostic tool. You can run both short and extended tests: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=9CT69I

Other thing you can do:
- Attach the drive with another cable to a different port.
- Go to your MOBO's website and update USB drivers.

Let me know how this goes,
