Hi i'm recently building a new rig. Since my old pc died after 7 years. So i thought, my time as come.

Here's my build

CPU - i7 6700k
mobo: asus z170 pro gaming
RAM: g skill 2x8gb @3000 mhz (checked the board manuel, it does support my ram)
SSD : 240GB
GPU: Gtx 970 4g
CPU cooler: CM nepton 240m
PSU: CM G750M.

Now, while i tried to boot up my pc after i put everything in their place. Everything in the case runs just fine, lights are up, fans are spinning. I also tried to search up everything i could and tried all the solutions on the internet (ex. other rams sticks/slots, boot up without GPU, etc.) Clear CMOS, shortened the pins..)

After all of that i still got the same result, my PC won't boot, not even post to bios. This is very frustating cause this has caused me a lot of money. I had worked very hard for it.. ( feels me? )

Lots of people seem to have the same problem, does any of them fixed this issue cause i haven't seen any topic with this problem got solved so..

I also think that MOBO is fine cause i just got a new one after i bent the old one's pin. Maybe the I7 6700K itself?

I did what you did, i bent the pins on the first time around.....i guess, exchanged the board. i have personally read where the cpu cooler might be too tight causing it to ground out? maybe loosen it up slightly to see if that makes a difference, thats what i am about to do, figured i would share what little i almost know, since you might be in same boat as me.....

cpu coolers and the skylake cpus have had numerous problems since release, most of which being that it would cause the cpu to not work because of the constricting cpu cooler, or simply constricting it to the point of damaging the cpu rendering it unusable.
it is also very likely that the Mobo you have is just a dud, its very common for brand new motherboards to just crap out, even more so often with Intel mobos.
i say trade in both your mobo and cpu for new ones assuming they are under warranty and go from there.

I'm in the same boat as you - nearly the exact same setup as well (Z170-A, 2400 mhz g.skill in 2x8 config, same GPU, same CPU, 750w PSU, CoolerMaster CPU cooler, SSD and all) with the exact same behavior. I have not had it post to BIOS yet, cannot even get beeps out of the MOBO speaker. Think I'm going to have to RMA the board - so very frustrated.

Just downloaded a Bios update, but if I can't get it TO Bios, don't know how that is going to help.

Stupid question.

Have you tried it with a different screen when you removed the GPU?

No beeping noises?

Does it auto-power off after a few seconds? (cpu damaged)

If you've tried everything (as it seems, removing graphics card, etc) I would once again return the motherboard for a new one.

an already-returned motherboard doesn't guarantee a working one, could still be faulty.

Dear Asus Lover's,

I am assembling computers for 16 years now and I can say one thing that's the first time I'am getting problems who pushed me crazy like this. But no worries if there is no solution there is no problem.

I used an Asus P6T with i7 920, I was running for 8 years without any problems, but for gaming was starting to be old

So I bought :

CPU : i7 6700k
Mobo : Asus Z170-A
RAM : Gskill 2x8gb 3000mhz TridentZ
SSD : Samsung 500gb 850 EVO
GPU : Nvidia GTX960
PSU : Corsair CX650M

I set up all the hardware, (No overclocking at all) Install windows 10 x64, transfer update the bios 2202 -> no problems..... for 3 hours ..... then crash ...... then I got all
the BSOD possible :

KERNEL, SYSTEM THREAD, MEMORY PAGE FAULT, ACPI.SYS, etc.....:fou:

Damn my old system is missing me. :pt1cable:

So I am old I called google my dear friend able to find solution for everything :

So I started to remember my old background : UBCD. So well Memtest was the best to test :

I test each memory on each slot with all the combinaisons possible and all the settings :

- Memory Slot Tested + Memtest 7.1 - Test Memory with Cpu parallel / Round Robin

  • GSKILL N°1 8GB on A1 / A2 / B1 / B2 ERRORS
    GSKILL N°2 8GB on A1 / A2 / B1 / B2 ERRORS
    GSKILL Dual Channel on A1 / B1 and A2 / B2 ERRORS
    GSKILL A1/A2 & B1/B2 ERRORS

- Bios Settings

  • CSM : Auto, Legacy Uefi, disabled
AI Tweaker : Auto, Manual, all the combinaison possible for RAM 2133Mhz, 3000 Mhz, With XMP without XMP

Damn !! My old config is missing me...

Anyway, I am going to buy some RAM kingston at 2133 Mhz in the QVL List but :

  • Kingston N°1 4GB on A1 / A2 / B1 / B2 ERRORS
    Kingston N°2 4GB on A1 / A2 / B1 / B2 ERRORS
    Kingston Dual Channel on A1 / B1 and A2 / B2 ERRORS
    Kingston A1/A2 & B1/B2 ERRORS

What The :fou:?????

Under MEMTEST 7.1 I tried one thing I changed the CPU Selection and Select the N°0 ( 8 Availables )

And after that damn no one sigle Errors :??: mmm Should be possible that my new CPU is damaged or got a default?!

NO Way I am going to buy an Asus Z170 Pro gaming.

I changed everything and I am going the same tests .... SAME PROBLEM.

mmm CPU Issue...???!!!

Yes there is : Skylake Bug

Oh no  How how how?! I am too old to read before to buy -_- Trusting to much. So anyway. Let's go deeper.

Doesn't matter which settings I am using I just have to disable one thing :

Go in the UEFI -> Advanced Mode (F7) -> Advanced -> Active Core -> 1 Core

Amazing no problems! No More errors BUT that's useless If I 'am not using all the power of my system.

So I have a huge problem now, CPU 0 and CPU 1 are not giving problems... Should it be possible to work like this?

In the end I tried :

- 2 Mobos Asus Z170-A and Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
- 2 different brand of RAM Gskill Tridentz 2x8GB 3000Mhz ang Kingston 2x4GB 2133 Mhz.

So to conclude I am going to RMA and choose an other CPU and see if that's running better. I will keep you updated.

If any magic Idea is popping I am aware.

Check for Bent pins on the cpu.....stranger things have happened. My system works great now......cold start bug was a starting problem for a bit, but i think a bios update eliminated that problem. Good luck to you.
