Question [GTX 1080 FE] (620euro new) VS [2 X GTX 980ti] (620euro brand new)

Solution
don't know about outside the US but here, FE is $700 and custom cards are starting at $615 or so. you'll have to look at local stores to see how they price compared to FE cards. there are even cards that look very similar to FE with the single blower style fan. these will be the cheapest and be near identical to the FE in performance. if you want to skim all the models and their specs they are ll listed here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3047729/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1000-series-megathread-faq-resources.html#17902597

links to reviews are there as well if you're interested in doing some reading.

the custom cards should be cheaper than FE which makes them more attractive to most. could easily save $50-100 on one over the FE ones.

980 ti would be a stronger pair if you know how to work it and don't mind the tinkering of it. i don't personally like sli but if you can handle it, then you will get stronger performance in games where sli actually works well.

i'd go for a 1080 myself, the asus strix is a solid card as are the evga acx 3.0 cards.

Don't go for the FE. Every review show high temps (like thermal throttle high). Blower style cards tend to be noisier, they gather dust easier and are harder to clean.

For the sli i wouldn't bother. You would waste a lot of money in electricity, higher system temps and of course sli comes with its own set of drivers issues.

As mathgeek said, go for an non reference design 1080. If you could sli that in the future it would be a much better scenario, with the low power consumption that 1080 has.

If your not going to OC the 980ti's you are loseing out on one of the biggest factors to chose them as the 1080 does not oc as well. The games I play dont scale well in sli thats why for me a single card solution is better. That being said if the games you like to play scale well the 2x 980ti will give you better 4k performance.
