Can I delete windows 10 from 1 partition and use the operative system on the other and then merge the partitions again?

My first windows installation soon went wrong and the registry database was corrrupted beyhond all help, I didn't do a fresh install because I already had many apps that I needed installed and the error was just when trying to install some programs wich led me to the following:
For my final project I need to make an app and that app requires me to create a database, but when I tried to install it it would always fail and it came down to the conclusion that the problem was the faulty OS. I don't have time to reinstall all again and it's too much of a hassle because I only nee to be able to use visual studio and have sql express, so I thought in creating a new partition and install a fresh windows 10 copy wich I did and then installed SQL express and it was all successful. No I'm wondering since it's only a partition, if I can delete the other windows 10 faulty version from the other partition, merge the two together and still use the files and apps installed on the other partition.

you update the faulty windows in place. boot up the faulty windows install, run the media creator tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/, select "upgrade pc" and when it asks tell it to keep your personal programs and settings.

back up any data you need in case something goes wrong. nothing is 100% perfect and you can lose data during the install. when it is done, you should have a fresh win 10 install and your apps, programs and such still there ready to go.

if it does work, then simply delete the second partition you created and re-merge that space back into your first one. or leave it and use it as a separate data drive. this is something i always recommend in case windows goes flaky or gets a virus...

you can wipe the partition and merge them no problem. but nothing on that partition will be left to use. everything will have to be installed fresh on your new windows install. if you mean can you use the stuff on your new partition still, then yes you can do it.

a second idea is:
to run the windows set-up again on the first partition. you can run it from the windows install or from a bootable disk/usb. during set-up chose to save personal settings and programs and it should give you a fresh win 10 install and leave your other stuff alone. i have done this a few times already with success. might be able to save the partition and all you already have on it. something to try anyway since you are ready to blow it all away with a format :)

Yup the thing is that I really didn't want to have to reinstall all the apps and games all over again, wich would take so long and I don't have the time right now. What makes it impossible to use the data from one side to the other? the registry?

Right now...which is more important?
Games, or SQLStudio and Visual Studio?

what makes it impossible is when you delete the partition, it deletes all the data inside that partition with it. so the apps and such are just not there to share anymore.

that's why i suggested reinstalling windows to that first partition and selecting "save my settings and programs". i have done this already and it leaves the apps and such there and simply restores windows. this is the answer to your question really, to do it that way. you already have windows running a second time in case it does not work and you are no worse off than you are now really :)

you can run the media creator for win 10 and select "upgrade this pc" it'll download the newest version and then gives you the option to keep your stuff during install. can't think of a better solution for you.

Ok thank you that actually seems a great aproach. So I delete windows on the partition that has the faulty windows or I just update it from there?
