I have a 500GB HDD with sata port and cables. The motherboard it's on is old and I'm building a Skylake i5-6600k gaming PC. Anyway, can i move that hard drive to this motherboard - MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and boot everything from that hard drive slot and be fine.
If this is too confusing I'll explain better. I have Windows 7 if that helps. Thanks a lot hopefully i can save about $84

Then no, your idea will NOT work.
1. It almost certainly will not boot in your new shiny PC
2. Activation WILL fail
3. Do you want all all their crap in your new PC? No you do not. A new...

Probably not.

2 considerations, Operation and Licensing

Operation - It may or may not boot. If it doesn't, there is no 'fix', other than just a full reinstall

Licensing - If it is an OEM license, that is tied to the original motherboard. Activation will fail.
You might get lucky in calling Microsoft, but they are under no obligation to allow an OEM license to be used with new hardware.

Everybody wants to save as much money as possible.
Sometimes, though, you do have to reach into the pocket.
