Can my i5-3570K CPU bottleneck the Pascal generation GPUs?

So, I'm a PC enthusiast; but I'm not very clear on this Subject. I have the i5-3570K @ 3.40 GHz. I'm planning on going from my MSI GTX 970 4GB to either a 1070 or 1080 GPU, possibly even adopting VR along with it.

I see slight signs of bottlenecking in Benchmarks on how you CPU affects gaming performance. Especially in Fallout 4. (Although it really is an awful port)

Do you think I should upgrade my CPU along with the GPU, if so, which one, and why?
(I'm not made of money, reasonable price-performance ratios, please ;) )

Keep your cpu its an awesome chip. OC to 4.2ghz is usually easy on all 4 cores with out any voltage changes on them. I have a 3570k that runs at 4.2 on a cheap cooler paired with a GTX 980ti thats OC to 1500mhz.

If I run the VR benchmarks it well exceeds and beyond in the top charts.

I also have a i7-6700k at 4ghz paired with the same model 980ti. In about 90% of games the FPS are equal. On heavy CPU games its only a head of the 3570K at 4.2ghz by 5-10% pending on the game.

The 3570K will not hold back a 1070 and I highly doubt it will a 1080 in non cpu intensive game

1. The 3570k is a great CPU. It is no bottleneck for the 1070/80. The 1080 might require an overclock on the CPU to use all of its abilities. But not a bad idea to get pascal.
2. It would be very hard to adopt VR. VR is too CPU tasking and the 3570k is too weak for it. In the future get a good broadwell e.

Sure a CPU will help. Would I invest in the 3770K? No. The performance return doesn't really justify the monetary investment. The 3570 will handle VR just fine. If you use the Occulus Rift test you will be disappointed. It will tell your CPU it's a failure. So rude. Go to Steam and download their VR test. You will be pleasantly surprised. This is the difference between theory and real world.

The 1080 of course would be best. However with a budget in mind and the 3570 in play the 1070 would be a better investment. Down the road you can of course upgrade the motherboard, CPU and RAM(bundles are cheaper) hopefully releasing the beast within your VR device. That does necessitate a new OS with OEM installs.
