SPECS:

asrock h97 pro4
gtx 660
8gb ram
adata sp550 240gb ssd

I bought a secondary hard drive for storage, but when I tried to format it in Disk Management I was given an error. I tried the "clean" command in diskpart, but was given this error: "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
See the System Event Log for more information."
If anyone knows how to fix this it would help me out a lot thanks!

Solution
Hey there, primeestate.

Sorry to hear about the issue you're having with your new drive. :(

Having I/O (input/output) errors is really not a good sign. Make sure that you have connected the drive properly and try again. I'd also recommend that you give it a try with a different computer or at least with a different SATA port and cables if you don't have another computer to try it with. You should also download DLG (Data Lifeguard) and run both tests (Quick and Extended) to see what's the situation with the drive: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.

Please let me know how everything goes.

Hey Boogieman, sorry for the late reply but I just tried a new SATA cable and plugged it into a different slot. Now the hard drive won't show up in Disk Manager or DLG. The Hard drive is being detected by the BIOS and is still spinning. Thanks again for the help!

*UPDATE*
So I checked other threads and updated my INF drivers and the HDD showed up and formatted correctly!
Thank you so much again for your help Boogieman WD ROCKS!!!
