Home Network with a Fibre Router

Hi,

I live in a rural area and have a home network centred around my Desktop PC upstairs with a wired connection to a Netgear D6300 AC router.

This PC is currently running Windows 7 but will be upgraded to Windows 10 shortly.

All my other devices – Smartphones/Tablets/Laptop connect wirelessly to the router.

In addition I have a Music streamer downstairs in room 2 connected to my Hi-Fi System, which also connects back to the music library stored on the Desktop PC upstairs via wireless

My Sky box Downstairs in room 1 is not connected, as the current network speed is only 1.6mbps so I am unable to access on demand services from my TV etc.

Later this year Gigaclear will be providing a Fibre connection (FTTH) to the property along with a Fibre Router.

So my question is how this is all going to work when the Fibre arrives, given that the phone line will disappear a few months later when I switch to VOIP.

The following issues need consideration:-
I have an older property with an extension which includes a concrete sub floor downstairs, so running Cat 5 cabling around the house will not be happening.
Therefore I assume the Fibre router will get located downstairs in room 1 next to the SKY box.
I will move my music Library off the upstairs PC at some point onto a NAS device (but probably not at the same time as the Fibre install) again I assume I will have the NAS near the Skybox/Fibre Router in room 1, although in reality I would prefer it upstairs close to the Desktop PC.

So I am thinking either a wireless card/dongle/usb stick etc. on the PC upstairs or try using a home plug connections of some sort.

Any thoughts or pointers would be appreciated.

There is no substitute for ethernet cabling. It might be worth getting a low voltage cable installation professional to give you an estimate. They can run upstairs/downstairs. That will be the best solution. AV2 MIMO powerline network adapters are the next best option.
