Ive been using this for quite a while now

CPU: i7 2600k (no oc)
Heatsink: Thermalake Frio OCK
GPU: gtx 460 (I had 2 but one died)
RAM: 8gb ddr3 (2x4 CORSAIR Vengance)
Power Supply: Cooler Master GX 750W
MoBo: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3
Case: Thermalake Overseer RX-1
HDD: 2tb (2x1 tb @ 7200rpm)
Display: cant meassure right not but Its something between 22" and 24" 1080p

The plan is upgrading the GPU, I have seen good comments on the gtx 970 but seeing the 1070 around the correr idk what to do/choose, hopefuly one that would be able to run For Honor, Gears o War 4 and Dark Souls 3 (im not that picky, soi dont aim a performance of 60+ fps on ultra settings)

Side note, right now I mostly play on my ps4 and use the pc only for World of Warcraft and Overwatch, but will hopefuly expand the list of games I play on pc with the upgrade

Solution
I wouldn't buy a 970 or lower anytime soon unless there is a very significant price drop. The RX480 is allegedly going to match the 970 in performance and cost 200 US
Graphics card pricing today is a bit volatile.
Unless you need to buy now, I would wait a bit.
Early adopters will be paying a price premium for GTX1070.
Prices for GTX970, 980, and 980ti have been reduced.
The purported RX480 at a $200 Price and high performance may actually happen.

In general, a GTX970 class card will game at 1080P very well.
The GTX1070 is overkill for 1080P, very good for 1440P, and reasonable at 4k in many games.

If you need to buy now, and your needs are modest, I might suggest you buy a EVGA GTX960 which would be a nice upgrade over your GTX460.
EVGA has a 90 day free trade up program if you should want something stronger.
Be sure to read the fine print and register your card.

Waiting is not a problem there is still a few months until Legion, Gears of War 4 and For Honor releases

So, basically: getting a better PSU + either a 960/970/980 + a little oc up to 4.0GHz?

I can agree on that point about 1070 being an overkill as i dont have plans on upgrading the display (also im worried of bottlenecking with that GPU being my CPU so old)
