Ill go ahead and give you the full details of the problems story. Im running windows 8.1, i have a geforce gtx 760 driver, an H81M - D PLUS micro motherboard, and a CX600M powersupply.

Skip this next paragraph to get to the current problem and my question...
The problem started with me playing a game and the screen freezing then going black then coming back on with a msg saying the driver had crashed and successfuly rebooted. But then it kept doing this in a loop so i forced a restart which seemed to clear the problem. I thought maybe i needed to upgrade the driver software to latest version so i did, and everything ran smooth untill i tried running a game again. The loop cycle went on again so i forced a restart, yet this time the computer wouldnt complete its boot up. It just black screened after the windows logo finished. (I pretty much know nothing about computers but im trying to learn...) So the first thing i did, because at the time i didnt know about safe mode, was reset the computer to a later date to get rid of the updated driver software. This did nothing to help. I believe this actually deleted any driver software without installing back the previous version. Eventually i looked up youtube videos, got ddu, cleared all the old driver crap, tried rolling back driver software too but i think because i did a restore point it wouldnt give the option.

Now the problem is that while trying to install the driver software, halfway through the install the screen goes black and stays black, then my computer restarts and i have to use ddu again to boot into normal mode.

My friend who knows a good bit about computers tried to fix it but he couldnt quite tell what it is. We obviously think that its a graphics card problem but we arent 100%. To clear the possibility that it could be a windows problem, we did a factory reset, which i was planning on doing soon anyways. The only change was that rather than black screening and restarting halfway through driver installation, it just stays blackscreened, which i let sit for an hour. (I shook the mouse and pushed space a few times and nothing)

Before the factory reset i even took the graphics card completely out but because it was out, i could not install the driver software.

Im currently installing windows 10 and will try installing the driver software a couple times.

Any ideas of what could be the cause to all of this? Is there a chance its a motherboard problem and the card is fine?

Also, the only sign of change leading up to the crash and reboot loop was just lag on rust... and the fact that i couldnt close the game rust without it crashing. No screen artifacts or signs of a going card. The crash and reboot loop started while playing overwatch btw.

(Im aware that bad power supply, bad connection to mb, and overheating are causes of that crash and reboot loop.)

Ive tried to provide you with all the details, thanks for reading, and sorry for all the errors, i typed tgis on my phone.

What is my advice to you here.

Borrow a power supply and test your system with it connected to the motherboard and graphics card if it requires power.

Try to install the driver for the graphics card again.
If the driver installs without error is means that at the point where the card tried to install the driver, or the driver was installed the power consumption of the card in creases.

If there is any problem with your power supply not delivering the right amount of power the point where the driver is installed is where the system will freeze or black screen loosing the video card signal.
If the card works normally before attempting to install the video driver for that model of card.

Just double check that the four or eight pin 12v...

Just double check that the four or eight pin 12v from the CX 600 psu is connected and firmly seated to the motherboard.
And if you also use the eight or six pin Pci-e 12v connectors to the card they are also connected and seated to the Pci-e card.

Also visually check the 760 card you have, if it uses the blower type fan on the card, a single fan.
look down the fan and the front edge of the cooling fins of the cooling solution under the shroud.
This is where on these types of cards if you have one you get a thick matte of dust build up on the front edge of the fins of the cooling block just behind the fan.

Once this happens you will notice that the frame rates in games dropp and may experience stuttering or lag.
And it is also the cause of the driver terminating in windows and re starting or where you are met with a black screen.

In some cases it will force the system to shut down and power off Jackson, in an attempt to save the Gpu on the card burning out due to a lack of air flow.
Your best removing the shroud of graphics card.

I`m inclined to believe it is partly the cause also as to why the driver will not install with the card.
So get your friend to check the card by removing the shroud and checking for the thick matte or dust buildup at the front edge of the graphics cards cooling solution Jackson.

It can often be as simple as that if you have had the card in your system for a few years.
An if your card does use a single fan of the blower type it most certainly be the case of blocked cooling fins via dust and lack of air flow.
