Hi All,

I want to upgrade my video card but I'm not sure if these are compatible with my MB, which is PCIe 2.0

these are what I've come up with (less than $500)
Gtx 970 4G
K2200 4G
gigabyte R9 390 4G

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3L
16G Memory
Core i7 870, 2.93 GHz
GT 240 1G
Power Green GP530AB
Case Green Magnum+

Thankss

CAD likes the quadro/firepro series much better than gaming cards. for a pure CAD system, i'd go with a quadro or firepro card. as strong as you can afford.

you'll have to do some searching for those benchmarks in CAD if you need to. i am not a user so don't really know much about the lines and what the pros and cons are. but from what you listed above, the k2200 is the most ideal card for CAD use

here is an older article explaining why the gaming cards are not ideal for CAD. http://www.computeraideddesignguide.com/best-graphics-card-for-cad-programs/

Thanks for answering,
For CAD, Rhino, Vray use which one would work better? NVIDIA 970, 980, Quadro K2200 or AMD R9 390
and for PSU what would you recommend?

prices are dropping fast on the 970/80 cards but it is better to wait a few weeks for the new amd cards to show up and be reviewed. the rx 480 looks to be close to the 980 and will start at $200!! plus the 470 is about $150 and should be near a 970 in performance.

worth the wait to save some cash and get the same or better performance. those cards come out on the 29th

you're power supply nly has a 6 pin pcie connector so none of those cards would work on it. the 480 is only gonna need a 6 pin so you may get away with that card and your same psu if you need to.

550-600w would be ample power for the system and any of the new cards. if you can post an online store or 2 you can shop at locally, i'll be happy to skim for some good models that are priced well.

or if you're in the US, just say so and that's easy to :)
