Hey all,

I have a question about upgading my system. I have 4 slots for RAM on my MB, and I am currently using only 2 slots. I have 8 GB in slots 1 and 3 (4 GB @ 1333 MHz x 2) and I am looking to add more. My current ram is not damaged and works fine, so I would hate to not be able to use them, so I am hoping I can mix them. So my question is, can I add say 16 GB @ 2400 MHz (2 x 8 MB) in slots 2 and 4? Or do I need to keep them the same?
Thanks in advance

Only a kit is guaranteed to work. two kits may not work together. If it does work there will be some speed loss as one kit is 1333MHz and other 2400 MHz so it will lock you onto 1333 Mhz in the end.

So its a gamble to try to mix. But if you are going to buy the 16 gig kit I would go for it. 16Gb is more than enough for gaming(that is if your system is used for gaming), and at the worst case you just remove the old ram and sell it.
