How to increase the amount of usable ram in windows 8.1 64 bit?

I have installed a 4 GB ram in my pc which runs on windows 8.1 64 bit. Initially after the installation the usable part of my ram was shown as completely 4 GB, but suddenly I noticed that it changed to 2.94 GB usable, so how can i again increase the usable part of my ram as before?

Try this fix:
1)Type Run in your start menu
2)type "msconfig"
3)Go under the "boot" tab
4)click "advanced options" button
5)UNCHECK! "Maximum memory"
6)Reboot

May be a slight difference in W8.1 or W10
Go to search and type msconfig and that should bring it up.
