Why does the i7-6700k outperform the i7-6800k/6850k in After Effects?

Checked out the reviews on the new Broadwell-E chips and it seems in the static render programs like Photoshop, the i7-6700k outperforms the new 6 cores (6800k/6850k) which was surprising. However, what's more surprising is that in After Effects the 6700k also does a better job rendering a 1080p video as well. Why would that be the case? PassMark has the 6800k/6850k with inferior scores in everything except for 3D graphics - where I thought would be related to rendering like in After Effects.

as far as i know AE has a multi core feature that uses a lot of ram making it in the end not worth it as its not that much faster
a 6700k is better however if you do 3d rendering with more cores thats another story

it is faster with the more cores but needs more ram as far as i know and in the end not that much faster

The actual answer is that most of what Photoshop (and other programs by Adobe) can do is mostly single threaded - e.g. single core only, not multi-core.

Thus, whichever processor has the fastest single thread performance (usually higher frequency, stock or overclocked) wins.

Faster memory speeds tend to positively impact single threaded applications more than multi threaded applications since the single threaded application is "held back" so much.

How much RAM are we talking about though?

most im seeing is 16-24gb of ram which unless you want that much for something else alone is not really worth it
however as i said before in 3d modeling and rendering you need those cores so my question really is do you use any other programs aside from AE

Personally I only use AE/Premiere for anything that involves 3D. I'm looking to stream too at about 720p though so unsure about multi CPU compression in that aspect (my upload speed is very low)

in streaming games a 6 core is better i would get a 6800k a 6850k is not really worth the extra money unless you want a lot of gpus
