Just in the midst of my first build, got the platform into my chassis and all hooked up and it seemed fine but hangs with the "Boot Device LED" lit up, not moving into post and no access to BIOS.

I've tried reseating RAM, and only putting in a single stick in every possible DIMM position.

I've removed the CMOS battery and jumped the clear RTC jumper.

It's currently removed from the case so I could confirm there was no short or an incorrect installation.

I've checked the CPU, no sign of damage or bent pins, no thermal paste where it shouldn't be...

I'm stumped, is it just a dud Mobo or have I screwed something up?

Solution

Ok, Good that you finally find and solved the problem, which turned out to be 'No Signal' coming out from the mobos graphic device.
Is it possible that you can RMA the mobo or is to old? Remember: many mobo manufactures has between 2-7 years factory warranty (depending of what mobo and model), which supersede the warranty from the shop one bought it from - under one condition: a manufactory fault, but this is usually not a problem. I myself have lots of experience of this and never have any of the biggest refused a RMA

Hi,

As I can see You have done most of it alright - except for one thing: have You used an ESD arm wrist? http://www.raidius.com/images/partsandtools/tools/prdToolsWristStrapLg.jpg

Ok. Remove all the attached drives by unplug its sata-connectors.
Without any drives attached, start the computer and directly press [Del] or [F2] or [Esc] so that you can enter BIOS Setup menu.
In there you should be able to Load Default BIOS Settings and then Save & Restart.
Shutdown the computer, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet > attach only one drive at the first sata-port, start the computer and directly go into the BIOS Setup menu > check in the menus if the drive is present, Save & Exit

Always have only one disk connected during Windows installation.

Install Windows > restart the computer > run Windows update
Start >Settings > Update and Security > Windows update
Restart
Repeat above

Then You put in the DVD with all the drivers from the manufacturer and install > restart.
Afrter this you should be able to Shutdown, unplug the power cord from the power outlet > attach and connect the remaining SSD and HDDS. Restart the computer.

Come back and tell us how it works.

Best regards from Sweden

No ESD, regularly grounded myself and worked away from carpet and other potential sources of static though.

Drives haven't been connected since an early troubleshooting step, sorry if I forgot to mention that.

I can't reach the BIOS stage with just the platform, screen just shows "No Signal from Displayport."

Aha: screen just shows "No Signal from Displayport.

That means there are no signal from the graphics card to the monitor.
Ok, That narrows it down a little bit.

Your graphics card have certainly another port i.e DVI or HDMI?
How about Your monitor, what are the alternatives there?

Try another type of graphics cable between?
And make sure that it is secured firmly at each end.

Using the integrated GPU of the motherboard.

I've tried using the HDMI connection as well to no luck.

Don't have another monitor that I can easily use, it is a new one though. I assumed I should be able to get past that point with the LED even without a monitor though?

No it doesn't matter att all. It is actually the monitor who tell you: "Nog signal" which means there are no graphics signal coming through.

So It has nothing to do with your monitor at all.
LED is something that troubles me.

You say this is lid up or exactly what happens?
Open the chassis side panel and really check the led status while you power up.

I have the platform outside the case now, when I boot it up the CPU LED flicks on and off, then the DRAM, then the VGA and finally the Boot Device LED sticks on and nothing more happens.

When it was in the case all the case fans would run at that stage but nothing else happened.

Had the same issue. Do the CMOS reboot (pop the little watch battery out for 10-15 secs w/ everything unplugged), but plugged the HDMI into the graphics card. Kinda of weird, I'm thinking the drivers for the motherboard need to be installed in order to use that HDMI port
