Hello. The other day, I set the machine to run chkdsk /r on the next reboot. However, during that reboot, the system began to install updates, but ran the chkdsk as normal. After the chkdsk though, the system crashed right after I got to the desktop with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or something to that effect. After rebooting from the BSOD, startup repair popped up saying, "Windows could not load correctly". It gave the option to restart the system as normal, which I did, and everything seems to be running normally. I have had no other BSODS, and even ran another chkdsk and system repair from the install disk to see if I could trigger it again. I don't have the minidump, apologizies. (I have windows set to automatically run disk cleanup and it deleted the file). The only other info I can give is that hal.dll was the cause. What happened? Was there a conflict while installing updates and running chkdsk at the same time? Thanks.

Yeah, most likely it was some conflict with the new updates files that are set to be moved before loading Windows, since you also had the chkdsk set to run at that time I guess chkdsk moved them to somewhere they weren't supposed to be.

Since the 2nd chkdsk ran with no issues and you no longer have BSODs it seems your system is all good again.
